About This Site and Its Author

I'm Tara Belmonte — a recreational poker player who got obsessed with UFC odds around 2018 and ended up logging every MMA wager I placed into a Google Sheet for the next several years. That habit of tracking results to the dollar, studying line movement, and arguing with myself about closing line value is what eventually pushed me to build How to Bet on MMA: Your Complete UFC Betting Guide rather than just scribbling notes nobody else would ever read.

What does this site actually cover?

Every guide here starts from a question I genuinely asked myself at some point — usually after losing a parlay I had no business building. You'll find plain-English breakdowns of how to read UFC fight odds in American moneyline format, a full rundown of every MMA bet type from moneyline to method of victory, and a look at how line shopping and closing line value can tighten your edge over time. I also cover the parts most guides skip — like the federal tax rules on UFC betting winnings and the six mistakes I see recreational bettors make most often.

How are facts sourced?

I only publish numbers and operator details I can trace to a credible source — legal sports betting coverage, regulator statements, or confirmed operator terms. If something wasn't verifiable, I say so explicitly rather than fill the gap. For a quick rundown of the most common questions, the MMA Betting FAQ — From First Bet to Tax Forms page collects the answers in one place. For state availability, the state-by-state MMA betting legality overview covers which of the 38+ legal states currently offer regulated online sports betting markets.

Must be 21+ (18+ in select states). Gambling problem? Call 1-800-GAMBLER.

If you notice an error or an outdated fact, check What's New on How to Bet on MMA first — I log corrections and updates there. Otherwise, reach out through the contact link in the footer and I'll look into it.

About the Author

Tara Belmonte — 6 years covering US sports betting regulation and UFC markets; formerly a staff writer on a licensed-operator affiliate publication

I've been placing MMA bets since the early UFC 200-card era, tracking every wager in a spreadsheet and field-testing cashouts on DraftKings, FanDuel, and BetMGM. On this site I break down odds formats, prop strategies, and sportsbook sign-up flows the way I wish someone had explained them to me before I lost $40 on a chalk parlay in 2019. I cover legal US sports betting with a focus on combat sports.
